Holy Trinity Reopening
Sunday, June 14, 2020

“My brethren, count it joyous when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. Now let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” – James 1:2-4

Over the last few months our faith has indeed been tested in ways unimaginable. Yet in Christ we always find victory. Εν τούτω νίκα! On Tuesday, June 9, 2020, Governor Phil Murphy rescinded the “Stay-at-Home Order” thereby effectively opening churches in the State of New Jersey. On Wednesday, June 10, the parish of Holy Trinity petitioned His Eminence Metropolitan Evangelos of New Jersey to reopen the parish for the faithful to attend the Divine Services. By the grace of God, His Eminence has extended his blessing for our beloved parish to reopen this Sunday, June 14, 2020.

In anticipation of the reopening, over the last few weeks the parish has been working hard to implement procedures to keep both the parish and the faithful safe once you return. While the church surroundings will be familiar, our behavior during worship and our interactions with each other will be different.

How is Holy Trinity preparing for our return?

How should I prepare?

What Should I Expect When I Come to Church?

What Should I Expect When I am in Church?

Please be aware that the transition back to a fully operational parish will take time, and there may be challenges along the way. We must persevere with faith, stay united, show love and understanding to one another in these still difficult days while all along knowing that “with God, all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26b).

Amidst the joyful preparation for returning to parish life, we must not forget the souls of all those who have lost their lives to this terrible pandemic, as well as all of those who continue to suffer from its ravages. If you know someone who has taken their repose because of the coronavirus, please forward that name/s to Father Peter so that they may be commemorated at the Holy Table of Oblation before every Divine Liturgy.

Lastly, we salute all medical workers, first responders, researchers, and those who serve in the supply chain for food and medicine. Let these courageous people be at the forefront of our prayers.

I look forward to the time when we can all be together once more at our beloved spiritual home taking delight in all that the Lord has given us. Until then, I remain,

In Christ, the Physician of our souls and bodies,

+Rev. Fr. Peter Delvizis, Presiding Priest
